DomainKeys Identified Mail, or DKIM, is a method for confirming the legitimacy of an email message by using an electronic signature. When DKIM is activated for a certain domain, a public cryptographic key is published to the global DNS database and a private one is stored on the mail server. If a new message is sent, a signature is generated using the private key and when the email is delivered, the signature is authenticated by the incoming mail server using the public key. Thus, the receiver can easily distinguish if the message is legitimate or if the sender’s email address has been forged. A mismatch will occur if the content of the email message has been altered in the meantime as well, so DomainKeys Identified Mail can also be used to make sure that the sent and the received emails are identical and that nothing has been added or deleted. This authentication system will boost your email safety, as you can validate the genuineness of the important emails that you receive and your colleagues can do likewise with the email messages that you send them. Depending on the given mail service provider’s adopted policy, an email that fails to pass the test may be deleted or may appear in the receiver’s mailbox with a warning.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Hosting

The DomainKeys Identified Mail option is pre-activated for all domain names that are hosted in a hosting account on our cloud servers, so you won’t need to do anything on your end to enable it. The sole requirement is that the particular domain should be hosted in a hosting account on our platform using our NS and MX resource records, so that the e-mails will go through our mail servers. The private encryption key will be generated on the server and the TXT resource record, which includes the public key, will be published to the global Domain Name System automatically, so you won’t need to do anything manually on your end in order to activate this option. The DKIM validation system will enable you to send out trustworthy e-mails, so if you are sending offers or a newsletter to clients, for instance, your email messages will always reach their target destination, whereas unauthorized third parties will not be able to forge your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Our semi-dedicated hosting come with DKIM activated by default, so in case you pick a semi-dedicated hosting package and you add a domain using our name servers through your Hepsia Control Panel, the records required for the email validation system will be set up automatically – a private key on our mail servers for the digital signature and a TXT resource record carrying the public key for the global DNS database. As the DKIM protection is set up for a specific domain name, all e-mail addresses created using it will have a signature, so you won’t need to worry that the emails that you send may not be delivered to their target email address or that someone may forge any of your email addresses and try to scam/spam people. This may be quite important in case you use e-communication in your business, since your associates and/or clients will be able to distinguish real email messages from forged ones.
